Lancaster Bomber and Typhooon Jet.
15/01/12
During the month a number of events took place and on the 20th October I headed up to Yeadon Moor to photograph two iconic aircraft which were scheduled to perform a flypast.I took up position on the roof of my van with my Canon 1D mk3 and 300mm lens at the ready. The runway still seemed a long way off so I added my 1.4x multiplier. This gave me the equivalent focal length of 540mm and is a setup which I would more usually use to photograph wildlife, but was ideal for capturing these 'large birds'!
Right on schedule, the distinctive outline of the Lancaster grew from a pinprick in the eastern sky.
The weather had been disappointingly overcast but just as the ‘Lanc’ turned to make its run 100 feet or so above the main runway, the sun burst through the clouds behind me and I got these fantastic shots.

The Lancaster was then followed by the tremendous Typhoon fighter jet, which made a number of impressive low speed passes. Travelling just above stall speed, the pilot using the thrust of the Eurofighters engines to keep the plane airborne.

I have included some close up crop shots to demonstrate the level of detail in these photos.
I hope you enjoy the pictures and thanks for looking.
