Contrasting Light At Flamborough

...

Flamborough Lighthouse, East Yorkshire
The conditions on the two days could not have been more different.

On Saturday we were treated to clear blue skies, and as I walked down to the beach at North Landing I was intrigued by the streak of smooth water running out through the middle of the bay.

I would guess that it is something to do with the way the water circulates in the bay, or maybe water from the headland draining invisibly through the sand.
Whatever the reason, the difference in surface textures gives an added dimension to this simple landscape. The effect is enhanced by using neutral density filters to allow the use of a relatively slow 2.5 second exposure, partially blurring the water.

On Sunday however the coast was enveloped in the same dense fog which covered most of the country (who wants to shoot blue skies all of the time anyway). This image was captured in Selwick Bay on the North side of Flamborough head.

These images have been added to my ‘Yorkshire Landscapes’ gallery and remember that they are also available in black and white.
